General
- Dissolution and reduction of recurrence of struvite uroliths
- Reduction of formation of new struvite and calcium oxalate crystals
- Reduction of feline lower urinary tract disease (including idiopathic cystitis and urethral plugs)
- Daily diet for adult cats up to 8 years of age
- Idiopathic cystitis
Low urinary RSS (Relative Super Saturation) values for struvite and calcium oxalate for undersaturation and low
metastable saturation, respectively, to dissolve struvite and to minimise the risk of new struvite and calcium oxalate
crystals forming in the urine.
The diet has a reduced content of magnesium and phosphorus (components of struvite crystals) for reduction of
recurrence of struvite crystals and stones.
A urine pH below 6.4 dissolves existing struvite crystals and minimises the risk of precipitation of new struvite
crystals.
High quality and highly digestible ingredients ensure an optimal uptake of nutrients from the diet, whilst reducing
faecal output.
EPA and DHA are both omega-3 fatty acids with a beneficial effect on the maintenance of healthy skin, coat and
joints.

Additional information
- By dividing the daily ration of SPECIFIC FCW Crystal Management into 3 or 4 meals, any postprandial increase of urinary pH is minimised.
- The diet contains chondroitin, a component of the natural protective glycosaminoglycan layer coating the bladder wall.
- Struvite urolithiasis is only one type of urolithiasis which may occur in cats. Identification of the type of urolith present in an affected patient is essential because different types of uroliths may require different dietary strategies (see the Managing Urolithiasis chart under Technical information on SPECIFIC).
- The composition and the high energy content of SPECIFIC FCW Crystal Management also make the diet appropriate for healthy adult cats with a slightly increased energy need. The highly digestible and balanced nutrients provide the adult cat with all nutrients necessary for a healthy life.
- For reduction of recurrence of uroliths composed of calcium oxalate, ammonium urate or cystine, SPECIFIC FKD/FKW/FKW-P Kidney Support is recommended.
- For obese cats with a tendency to develop struvite urolithiasis, SPECIFIC FCD-L Crystal Management Light, SPECIFIC FXD Adult or SPECIFIC FRD Weight Reduction is recommended.
- For cats with recurrent idiopathic cystitis, a wet diet is preferred (SPECIFIC FCW Crystal Management or SPECIFIC FXW/FXW-P Adult).
